Aet bought a new home in an idyllic Nõmme apartment building, but hasn't had time to fully furnish it. The apartment is still incomplete and here and there, it lacks furniture. The bedroom is no exception – for example, the wardrobe is still missing. But she dreams of a homely, cozy and practical bedroom.
Before: many things, but little storage
The bedroom furniture is mismatched. Aet owns a collection of amazing dresses and shoes, but they don’t have a proper place—some are on open shelves, while others wait for their time in suitcases. Occasionally, the sound of passing trains can be heard, as there is a railway nearby. And since the window faces north, the room gets little natural sunlight. This bedroom, in desperate need of storage, presents an exciting challenge for our interior designer Anastasia Malkova.
After: a calming blue bedroom
One of the walls has been turned into an accent wall. For that wall, Anastasia chose a soft blue shade that matches the dark green bedroom door. The accent wall extends slightly onto the side walls and ceiling, highlighting the room’s high, curved ceiling. The shape of the ceiling is mirrored by the traditional-style furniture with rounded edges, complemented by a modern bed for a contemporary touch. Plenty of smart and chic storage solutions
This room’s storage hero is the wardrobe system that spans an entire wall. To give the room a more boudoir-like feel, Anastasia fitted the wardrobe partially with glass doors, putting Aet´s beautiful dresses and shoes on display. To the glass-doored section of the wardrobe, she added inside lighting, highlighting its sparkling contents while also improving illumination. Next to the bed, there are nightstands for smaller items, while bedding and the other essentials belong in the spacious, romantic dresser. And should all that storage not be enough, the storage boxes under the bed come to the rescue!Bedroom
Tips and tricks to improve similar rooms
"Aet has a lively personality, so my main goal was to create a space that feels calming, yet reflects her character," says Anastasia. And she nailed it! But how? Here are her tips for designing a similar bedroom:- Don’t be afraid to experiment with colors and different color schemes. An accent wall doesn’t have to be just one wall—there are many creative ways to paint one, and it can significantly impact the overall look of the room.
- Add color with textiles and accessories. If you don´t want to paint the walls, you can always play with colorful fabrics and accessories to add pops of color and coziness to the room.
- Concentrate on the function of the room and what you really need in that space.
